Let me just say that our traveling experience was just amazing. I mean, at the MSP airport we had the chance to experience concourse D. For the ones that have not experienced concourse D, its a newer concourse with really comfortable waiting areas. The Amsterdam and the Barcelona airport were smooth transitions and our flights were fantastic. The Eagan boys and girls traveled LIKE CHAMPS.
We arrived at our hotel which is right in the middle of the old city and the Gothic barrio (neighborhood) around 10 a.m. just to leave our luggage and start our journey (it's important to note that most of us watched movies during our transatlantic flight instead of sleeping so we were exhausted).
Then we met with our guide, Javier, who took us on a walking tour around the Gothic Neighborhood. Javier was a knowledgeable, upbeat, passionate, and fun guide who took us on a 5 hour tour. During the tour, Javier talked to us in Spanish about the different churches and their gothic style architecture, the 2000 + year subterranean Roman ruins and the significance of "Las Ramblas" (mile long pedestrian street with a lot of social and economical activity). Javier then took us to "La Boqueria". La Boqueria is a market where local people go buy anything from fresh produce, to fresh seafood. The group had 30 minutes to explore the market, buy their products eat some of its food or drink espresso (recommended for sleep deprivation and exhaustion).
9 p.m. we left for dinner and enjoyed an amazing gastronomic experience. Ate lots of tapas, pork with potatoes and "crema Catalana" for a dessert.
We finished our day with a little night stroll of "Las Ramblas".
